Just a few things to do on gamedays

Some food for thought…..

This blog is about women’s sports at Rowan University; however I also planned on giving some insight to the women’s sports realm. I have recently noticed, through my participation in trying out for the women’s basketball team at the university, the importance of teammates.

The women’s basketball program, as mentioned in an earlier post of mine has just recently started their pre-season training. A very crucial time of the year for any sports team. However, the girls on the team have been met with different injuries and other situations that could possibly hold them back from accomplishing their goals. But one of the most important things I have noticed, is the “helping hand”, each player old or new, or in between, has reached out to help the next person. When a player makes a mistake, there is someone there to pick them up. Maybe it’s even the pats on the back for a good play, or the encouraging words when someone’s tired. There are many individual situations that I have noticed, but I know you may be wondering what makes this important enough to write about. It is the fact that each person in a sense are going after each other’s positions, or playing time, or whatever the case maybe, but that does not stop the “helping hand”.

Many say that girls are too sensitive or too caring, as if it’s always a bad thing. In this case it is not. Therefore, whenever you begin to think selfishly as an athlete, go right ahead and think about yourself, but think of yourself in someone else’s shoes.

If you made a mistake or you were tired, how important would the “helping hand” be?

Just a little food for thought, keep up the hard work ladies.

It’s time for basketball….

The women’s basketball team got underway on Wednesday afternoon. The ladies are coming off of a respectable season with an overall record of 15-11 and 7-6 in the conference. While the team graduated three seniors, they have a lot of talent and leadership returning. The team will be led by head coach, Gabby Lisella, and assistant coach Michelle Farroh. With only three practices in, it’s still too early for a player preview; stay tuned. However, this season is expected to be a good one, again there is lots of talent returning and a lot of new faces. Good luck girls.

Profs Stroll

A week at a glance for the women sports teams at Rowan University. Up first, and one of the most exciting of the week are the ladies of the soccer team. Last Wednesday night the Profs took on New Jersey Athletic Conference ( NJAC) rival The College of New Jersey, in a double overtime 1-1 tie. While, the soccer team held on for a tie, the field hockey girls weren’t as lucky, falling to Salisbury University 2-0 on Wednesday night. Thursday night didn’t bring anymore luck to the women sports sidelines at Rowan University. The volleyball team lost 3-0 to Richard Stockton College. The cross country team were able to finish in a strong third place at this past weekends New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Invitational ( NJAIAW). The field hockey team managed to climb their way back to their winning ways with a 2-1 NJAC win against Montclair State University. Thanks for taking a stroll down HER SIDELINE with yours truly. God Bless
